Away from the flock
Self biographical and articulated to the extreme, 2009’s “Non Voglio Morire” (I Don’t Want To Die) is a love it or hate it album. Centered around the relationship of Carlo with metal music and art in general, this collection of songs left many wondering how it was possible that there was a single band behind such varied output…
The making of “Non Voglio Morire” was sparse to say the least: the song writing, the recording sessions, everything took ages to complete. Geographical distance between band members and also the recording studio added further dilution to the process and the project went very close to being aborted altogheter when it became evident that the engineer/producer that we had initially chosen for the project was totally lost in front of the complexity of our musical soundscape. We ultimately got ahold of the masters and took them to Paolo Ojetti (Infernal Poetry/Potemkin Studio) who was able to tame the beast and give us something that UK label Casket Records found suitable to release.
The musical variety is pretty incredible and even too extreme for many. Episodes of sheer fury like “The Origin” and “Fuck Face” merge with the dark industrial metal of “The Artist” and thrash ballads like “Calling Our Names” or indie-pop numbers like “In Retrospective”. All in all an album that is dense and complex and requires repeated listens to get the overall picture.
“Discipline, restraint and motivation
If I follow my inspiration
There’s a chance that I get to a place that is unknown
To a time, to a truth that is pure”
